Behind the Scenes of Last Train Home Trailer(s)

We recently announced Last Train Home, a survival strategy game in which players lead a group of Czechoslovakian soldiers back home in the aftermath of World War I. We had an exclusive opportunity to present our Announcement trailer during the PC Gaming Show on 11 June.

Let us take one step further and share details about how this trailer came about. To give you an inside look, we prepared a behind-the-scenes video about the filmmaking process. What may interest you is that even the game's developers appeared in the trailer as soldiers freezing in action. Enjoy the show!

How was the trailer created?

Because our upcoming game is based on historical events, we had the unique opportunity to utilize an existing functional replica of an armored train called Legiovlak. This particular train even travels around the Czech Republic and serves as a museum on wheels, which helped to spark the idea. We also felt that a live-action trailer would be the best way to capture the story and convey the proper emotions to the viewers. Four parties participated in the preparation of the trailer:

  • Ashborne Games (the developer): We organized the filmmaking, and members of our studio participated in the shooting as extras.

  • THQ Nordic (the publisher): Randis Albion, Senior Art Director at THQ Nordic, became the Director of Photography for the trailer.

  • Czechoslovak Legionary Community (ČsOL): A Czech non-profit association that we consulted regarding the historical accuracy of the game narrative and the trailer (e. g. the used replicas of weapons, clothing, relics, etc.). Many of them are descendants of Czechoslovak legionaries. They allowed us to use the train and appeared as extras in the trailer.

  • Gnomon Production: A Czech film production company founded in Brno, which has produced live-action videos and documentary films since 2009.

Apart from the developers, the trailer includes real actors, such as award-winning Czech actor Karel Dobrý [Mission: Impossible, A Knight's Tale, Carnival Row, and many more], who portrays Captain Langer. You may as well get acquainted with his appearance because he represents this character even in the game. He’s the one that will lead you through the story as your advisor.
